King Ludwig I of Bavaria must have had a great press agent: We don’t remember him as the petty despot who raised taxes to finance his extramarital affairs and was chased out of town during the revolution of 1848. Instead, we remember the marriage-ceremony beer bash he threw in 1810 that became the model for all future Oktoberfests. Today, Capitol City Brewing Co. celebrates one year of operations with its own outdoor bacchanal, its First Annual Oktoberfest, featuring a German band, plenty of burgers and wursts, a silent auction, and potables both imported and locally brewed. Proceeds go to the Make a Wish Foundation and the Children’s Hospital. From noon to 6 p.m. on H Street between 11th & 12th Sts. NW. FREE. (202) 628-2222. (Greg Kitsock)
