Works by two of the more interesting (and that means listenable, generally) American academic composers and a tango by Astor Piazzolla highlight Mosaic‘s Washington-area debut. The New York contemporary-music ensemble plays George Crumb’s humpback-inspired Vox Balanae (The Voice of the Whale) and Elliott Carter’s Enchanted Preludes, as well as Piazzolla’s Grand Tango. The program also includes works by Bohuslav Martinu, Bruce Stark, and Eric Moe. At 8 p.m. (preceded at 6:30 by a free seminar on contemporary-music performance styles) at the University of Maryland Adult Education and Conference Center, University Blvd. & Adelphi Rd., College Park. $18.
