In Airing Dirty Laundry, Ishmael Reed‘s latest collection of essays, the acerbic writer fires polemic after polemic at the white media establishment for blaming blacks for America’s social ills and demonizing black men as violent sexual predators. Reed advocates multicultural education and ceaselessly berates conservatives for racism, but saves his most savage criticism for leftist icons like Anita Hill and National Public Radio. At 6 p.m. at Vertigo Books, 1337 Connecticut Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 429-9272. (David Plotz)
