Unlucky in love and not doing much better at pop stardom, ex-‘Til Tuesday singer/songwriter Aimee Mann seems a bit testy on her recent Whatever album; “I should be riding on a float in the hit parade,” she grumps in “Put Me on Top.” Live, though, catchy tunes like “I Should’ve Known” and “Could’ve Been Anyone” will surely benefit from being rescued from their rather fussy recorded settings, and she’s got a back catalog too.
