Used to be, comedians were content to stand up and tell jokes. Now, you’re strictly nowheresville unless you have a one-man show, where trenchant “insights” replace actual gags. The latest comic to turn reflective is Ritch Shydner. The George Mason grad and O’s fan has created The Romantic Adventures of Canyon Man, a “manic, testosterone-driven personality’s” view of relationships. Shydner’s canyon is the same one Joni Mitchell sang about, but don’t expect his ladies to be wearing wampum beads and filigrees of lace. Will Canyon Man prove an evolutionary step beyond the Cave Man in the quest for laughs? Find out tonight and through Dec. 5th at 8:30 & 10 p.m. at the Improv, 1140 Connecticut Ave. NW. $8-12.
