The band’s called My Life in Rain and its three-song 7-inch is called This Is Your Ballistic Helmet, but those are the fussiest things about this local quintet. Songs like “Expendable” and “Lost” deftly weave folk-rock chime and punk-rock squeal, providing a surging rush both sharp and sweet; the way plangent guitar riffing and power chords (underscored by martial drum fills) face off at the beginning of “Handcuff” exemplifies the band’s edgy, electric sound. The disc is $3.50 postpaid from Pat Cusack, 50 Records, 12516 Stable House Court, Rockville, MD 20854.
