The animal rights group Friends of Animals (FOA) is campaigning to liberate Consuela, a 6- month-old kid currently held hostage by the Capital Children’s Museum. Consuela, the only live animal in the museum, makes her home inside an exhibit on Mexican village life. (The Official Mexican Goat position was previously held by Rosie, a 13-year veteran who departed earlier this year for that great curry pot in the sky.) According to FOA investigator Bill Dollinger, 15 protesters picketed the museum last Saturday, chanting, “Free Consuela,” and FOA has asked the Mexican Cultural Institute to protest the stereotyping of Mexicans as goatherding villagers. FOA has offered to take Consuela to a farm in upstate New York, but the museum has refused and did not return our phone calls. Clearly, FOA has gotten their goat.
