THROUGH JANUARY 9
Decades after it was last exhibited in its entirety, Jacob Lawrence’s “Migration Series” is on display at the Phillips Collection. Depicting the great African-American migration North after the first World War, the 60 panels with accompanying captions made the artist’s name when they were first shown in the ’40s. They are vibrant and vital, by turns heartwarming and heartbreaking: Few artists achieve such a combination of emotional and pictorial interest. At the Phillips Collection, 1600 21st St. NW. Hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. $6.50. (202) 387-2151. (M.D. Carnegie)
