Not only has Dana Tai Soon Burgess founded D.C.’s first Asian-American modern dance company—he also choreographs and directs its premiere, “Moving Forward: Expression in Contemporary Asian-American Dance.” The five scheduled pieces, performed by Burgess with an Asian-American cast, are billed as a “[blend] of traditional…imagery and modern dance aesthetic”; news that original scores have been composed by both Washington Ballet accompanist Christopher Nickels and by ex-Government Issue member Tom Lyle certainly suggests an openness to musical diversity. Tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m. at George Washington University’s Marvin Center Theater, 800 21st St. NW. $8. (202) 588-1884. (Nathalie op de Beeck)
