From shoe-gazer jangle to Axl Rose yawp to disco redivivus, trance tones figure so strongly in today’s pop that the secular rise of Pakistan’s Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan seems inevitable. Descended from six centuries’ worth of Sufi devotional singers, Khan performs qawwali, composed of equal parts rolling-thunder percussion and ecstatic call-and-response singing. He and his accompanists perform at 8:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland’s Tawes Theater, University Blvd. & Adelphi Rd., College Park. $15-50. (301) 403-4240. (Michael Dolan)
