OCTOBER 22 & 23
From those obsessive folks who brought you endless hours of Ulysses recitations comes a marathon reading of all the words—even the made-up ones—in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. An indisputable classic of English literature, it’s also some 1,240 pages long, depending on the edition, so the event will occur at three locations over the next three weekends. Plan to be awake when one of the local actor/readers utters this line: “ “I will serve the master of the Precious. Good master, good Sméagol, gollum, gollum!‘ Suddenly he began to weep and bite at his ankle again.” Just remember: Frodo lives! Saturday & Sunday from noon-midnight at the Willow Street Gallery, 6925 Willow St. NW. FREE. For information on subsequent readings, call (202) 371-0700. (Dave Nuttycombe)
