F R I D A Y
When Tae Won Yu and Rachel Carns of Kicking Giant sing “be my baby,” it’s no idle reference: This Olympia, Wash., duo really does have a Spectorian gift for classic pop melodies. Phil, of course, wouldn’t know what to make of the band’s minimalist lineup and fondness for feedback, but on the band’s newAlien i-D those sound pretty classic too. Opening are Built to Spill, like-minded but less distinctive popnoisemakers, and Ditchcroaker at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $5. (202) 667-7960. (Mark Jenkins)
