Halloween-rockers Date Bait are celebrating their sixth anniversary and the release of a new single with a Saturday show at, appropriately enough, the Black Cat. The songs, “Wild Woman” b/w “Head in the Shed,” were recorded last December, but it’s taken this long for Get Hip Records to press the 7-inch, blood-red-vinyl discs. Still, the timing worked in the band’s favor, as the tunes are seasonally apt—spooky scream-fests that owe much to the Shangri-Las by way of the Cramps. No coincidence, as Baiter vocalist Brian “Horrorwitz” has maintained a lifelong crush on the ’60s girl group. “Next to Julie Newmar, I thought the lead singer for the Shangri-Las was the hottest chick I ever saw,” he disclosed. No longer a fixture at Joe’s Record Paradise, Horowitz has quit his day job with the intention of spending his time mixing the band’s new album, also due from Get Hip. The 45 is available at the usual local-music friendly locations or by dropping a note to DeCeased Records, 2101 Hildarose Dr., Suite 203, Silver Spring, MD 20902.
