Both the survivors and saviors of New York hardcore, Sick of It All has persevered—through the collapse of its scene and a much-publicized incident involving a kid wielding a gun and wearing one of the band’s T-shirts—to sign with a major label and make a new album. The speedy, snarly Scratch the Surface sounds pretty much like the quartet’s previous discs, which is some sort of triumph.
