Kenneth Branagh had his shot, but if a one-page Xerox sample is any indication, it looks like Bernie Wrightson’s Frankenstein has properly captured the Gothic grimness of Ms. Shelley’s tale. The comic artist’s new book—with 45 full-page black-and-white illustrations—does make Frank’s monster look a lot like Swamp Thing, but Wrightson co-created that misunderstood Goliath as well. In addition to tightly controlled, finely detailed line work evocative of the original novel’s period, Wrightson has one of the more distinctive John Hancocks in comicdom. He will affix it to his book today from 1-4 p.m. at Big Planet Comics, 4908 Fairmont Ave., Bethesda. FREE. (301) 654-6856. (DN)
