Named for 16th-century ecclesiastical composer Thomas Tallis, pioneering neo-medieval a cappella ensemble the Tallis Scholars tonight performs the work of Tallis’ apprentice, William Byrd, as well as that of Orlando de Lassus and other composers whose austere music now has an appeal quite detached from the Christianity that once inspired it. At 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb St. NW. $9-30. (301) 403-4240. (MJ)
