Bugs Bunny & Friends
Though the remarkable Mel Blanc has passed away, the creations he gave voice to are such an integral part of American culture that they have not been allowed to follow him. All things considered, this is good. It is certainly a tribute of some kind that on this disc it takes four men—Greg Burson, Joe Alaskey, Bob Bergen, and Jim Cummings—to fill Blanc’s blank. Since it’s Christmas, we won’t quibble about the exactitude of their simulations. They do a nice job helping Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, and the gang attack these 12 songs, a mix of standards and originals such as the title tune and “I Tawt I Taw Ol’ Tanty Claus.” It’s all upbeat faux-Broadway silliness that should prove diverting to precocious kiddies and like-minded grown-ups already familiar with the ‘toons. Though this is giggly fun, the Chipmunks remain the creature kings of Christmas.
