DECEMBER 16

While the large number of Louisiana zydeco and Cajun bands coming through the area get most of the attention, Washington also has some home-grown zydeco and Cajun talent of its own. One such example is Zydeco Crayz, a year-old five-piece unit that specializes in the style of such older Creole master musicians as Canray Fontenot and Boisec Ardoin. The Crayz will be showcasing their fiddle, accordion, and rub-board-dominated sound in a benefit to raise funds for the renovation of Eastern Market. Dance lessons at 7:30, music at 8 p.m. at the Market 5 Gallery, 7th & North Carolina Ave. SE. $10. (202) 543-0587. (Steve Kiviat)
