A stubborn collaborationist, John Cale played European stadiums with Lou and the gang last year and then released an album with Bobby Neuwirth that made Metal Machine Music look like a hit. Now he’s got a box-set retrospective out, and while he won’t be able to fit a Welsh boys’ choir on the 9:30 stage, this show will feature the Soldier String Quartet and steel guitar player B.J. Cole, which should enable Cale to cover some of the facets of his multifarious career. At 9:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 930 F St. NW. $17. (202) 393-0930. (MJ)
