Everybody has a “funny college roommate” story, but Baltimore’s Bob Somerby has the best. His dorm buddy at Harvard was none other than class cut-up Al Gore. One supposes that it was the Veep’s nonstop wacky antics that inspired Somerby to forgo teaching for stand-up. One of the more thoughtful comics working, Somerby digs deeper than most into topics like materialism and family without losing sight of the punch lines. And of course, there’s always the chance that Tipper will drop by and heckle. At 8:30 p.m. tonight-Friday at the Improv, 1140 Connecticut Ave. NW. $10. (202) 296-6988. (Dave Nuttycombe)
