Stephanie Mencimer’s “Imperial Court” article (1/12) was excellent and draws much-needed attention to the excesses of both the Superior and Appellate divisions. However, relatively little if any of the report analyzed the administration of the litigation and appellate processes. The oft-repeated contention that the court delivers excellent service (despite its unaccountability and bloat) is simply not true for anyone having to practice in either forum. It is a third world government, considering the utter incompetence of the Offices of the Clerk. Future reporting on this would also be a great service to our city.
