For years, Yo La Tengo’s Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley have been sanding away the sharp edges of their marriage in an effort to become closer than physically, if not spiritually, possible. Electr-O-Pura serves as the latest record of their musical/romantic quest, complete with suggestions to swap gender roles now that their fusion is all but complete. Live, the band has made its claim as one of the most innovative of the last 10 years, inhabiting the space between folk-rock and chaotic noise. In that space, enough gratitude and harm are exchanged to prove that no matter how extraordinary Kaplan and Hubley are musically, as lovers they’re just like everyone else. Helium and Labradford open at 9:30 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $9. (202) 393-0930.
