There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
The poorly named New York group Poem Rocket plays unsexy, avant-garde-a-clue indie rock. Its debut CD, Felix Culpa, gathers 7-inch and compilation releases, natch, and features suspicious song titles like “Milky White Entropy” and “Deus Absconditus.” But Poem Rocket’s mix of the Birthday Party, early Sonic Youth, and lo-fi atmospherics could prove captivating live if the band adopts its influences’ confrontational attitude. Pelt opens at 9 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $3. (202) 667-7960.
