2 FRIDAY
Yale history professor Jonathan Spence has come to specialize in the sometimes cataclysmic oddities that resulted from the meeting of Chinese and Western cultures. His latest effort, God’s Chinese Son, is an account of the bloody mid-19th-century Taiping Rebellion, led by a Chinese zealot who was so impressed by the Bible that he decided he was Christ. Spence discusses his book at 6:30 p.m. at the Freer Gallery’s Meyer Auditorium, 12th & Jefferson Dr. SW. FREE. (202) 357-3200; at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Politics & Prose, 5015 Connecticut Ave. NW. FREE. (202) 364-1919. CP
