While The For Carnation has terrible grammar, the band has impeccable taste. Featuring members of the hugely influential Slint and the soon-to-be venerated Tortoise, the five Carnations concoct a brooding brew on their debut EP, Fight Songs. Not as ferocious as Mike Tyson, Songs pulls a Muhammad Ali-style rope-a-dope, lulling the listener into passivity before clocking him cold.
