Hightone Records’ roots-rockers aren’t living in the past to hide present-day wounds—they’re only communicating in a way that sounds best to them. The star of the label and of the Hightone Records Roadhouse Revival Tour is ex-Blaster Dave Alvin, a writer who, with his mostly retrospective King of California album, put some of the most shamefully ignored music to come out of L.A.’s post-punk scene in one indispensable package. Other notables playing tonight are Buddy Miller, who will sample from his witty Your Love and Other Lies, and retro-country stylists Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys. With Reverend Billy C. Wirtz and Dale Watson at 8:30 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3901 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $17.50. (703) 549-5919.
