With his smooth, bald pate and cool, determined style, Homicide’s Andre Braugher is the most convincing actor on television. (Is there such thing as a small obsession? Just wondering.) However, the runner-up is neither Emmy-winner Dennis Franz nor his NYPD Blue cohort Jimmy Smits (getting to say “numb nuts” and flash your saggy ass on network TV doesn’t make you a master thespian). No, Braugher’s only true competition is his co-star, Yaphet Kotto, who plays Lt. Al Giar-dello. With his raspy voice, hulking presence, and, of course, close proximity to Braugher, Kotto is one intimidating customer. Of course, if he ever got in the way of my finally meeting Andre, I’m pretty sure I could take him. Well, not that it would ever come to that. In a Black History Month tribute, Kotto will be the featured guest artist with the United States Air Force Band as he intones Aaron Copland’s A Lincoln Portrait and other crowd-pleasers at 3 p.m. at the DAR Constitution Hall, 18th & D Sts. NW. FREE. (202) 767-5658. CP
