Israel Vibration’s On the Rock appeared on a number of ’95 year-end lists, though not mine—the formulaic songwriting was a major disappointment. I agree with other critics on one thing, though: Skelly Spence, Apple Craig, and Wiss Bulgrin know how to harmonize. Having met as children at a rehab center (all three were disabled by polio), the Rasta trio has been together ever since. They’ll be backed by the latest version of the Roots Radics, who have worked with Gregory Isaacs and Adrian Sherwood since the late ’70s.
