SATURDAY

Why wait until Bloomsday when there’s a perfectly good Irish holiday in March? At tonight’s From Wilde to Beyond Beckett: A Postmodern St. Paddy’s Wordfest, Scena Theatre’s Robert McNamara and local actors, including David Fendig, Mary Teresa Fortuna, Michael Judge, Stephanie Madden, and Kerry Waters, perform dramatic readings from all-star Irish authors. James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, and Oscar Wilde will be among those celebrated, along with William Butler Yeats and dramatist Sean O’Casey. A reception follows, so try not to spill any Guinness or soda-bread crumbs on the bookshelves. At 7 p.m. at Chapters, 1512 K St. NW. $12 (benefits Scena Theatre). (202) 347-5495. CP
