Since MTV hasn’t gotten around to doing a “Has-Beens” segment of Unplugged, Howard Jones is taking it upon himself to release a stripped version of his ’80s synth-pop. Tonight, he plays from his new record, Live Acoustic America, a recap of hits like “New Song” and “Things Can Only Get Better” with just piano and guitar. It’s a testament to what happens to all artists when they run out of material: They wait out the creative rut by repackaging the old stuff. With the recent ’80s revival, though, Jones would be crazy if he didn’t try to stick around for a while. At 8 p.m. at the Birchmere, 3901 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. $18.50. (703) 549-5919. (TP)
