“You want fame?” Debbi Allen would ask every week in the opener to the arts-school drama, pounding her walking stick into the floor. “Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying. And sweat!” With similar verve, Dr. Sherry Berryman-Miller daily whips students into shape at Howard University, the only historically black college to have a degree program in dance. Howard University’s Dance Ensemble presents its Spring Concert with special guests Philadanco. For more than a quarter-century, this company of underrated artists has put in more than enough sweat to earn their slow-in-coming but growing fame.
