Jim Paul is a man unafraid to indulge his follies. He secured a $500 grant from an arts foundation to finance a giant slingshot in Catapult: Harry and I Build a Siege Weapon. He planned a monthlong jaunt to France with a disinterested woman, hoping their proximity would entice her to marry him, in What’s Called Love: A Real Romance. Now (still single, incidentally), he reprises his Dark Ages fixation in Medieval in LA, a mischievously philosophical novel that combines 20th-century travelogue and 10th-century mindset. Paul reads at 7 p.m. at Chapters, 1512 K St. NW. FREE. (202) 347-5495. (NodB)
