You might say they’ll be phoning this performance in. Soprano Lauren Wagner makes her home in Detroit, but she’ll be in Washington this weekend for a collaboration with one of our own: saxophonist Gary Louie, who teaches music at Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory. They’ll perform the local premiere of I Never Saw Another Butterfly, a song cycle for piano, voice, and sax by Lori Laitman (a Potomac resident) to poems written by children from the Terezin concentration camp. Pianist Frederick Weldy joins them in Butterfly and sticks around to accompany Wagner on songs by Mozart, Puccini, Richard Strauss, Hugo Wolf, George Gershwin, and Charles Ives. At 8 p.m. at the French Embassy’s La Maison Française, 4101 Reservoir Rd., NW. $15. (202) 833-9800. (Trey Graham)
