It is an unfortunate fact of life that, as often as clothes make the man, clothes make the man ridiculous. But they sure make long airport waits more interesting. Exploring apparel as a communicative medium, Textile Museum curator Rebecca A.T. Stevens moderates a symposium on “The Garment as Expression,” featuring Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute curator Richard Martin and Kyoto Costume Institute curator Jun I. Kanai. The daylong event, held in conjunction with the exhibition, “The Kimono Inspiration: Art and Art-to-Wear in America,” begins at 10 a.m. at the Textile Museum, 2320 S St. NW. $60 (lunch included). For reservations call (202) 667-0441. (Nicole Arthur)
