After following the life of Johnny Cash in his songs, I think it’s safe to call June Carter the “better half” of this husband-wife team. When the two sing in concert, it’s charmingly clear that in this relationship the Man in Black wears the pants—and June holds the reins. But in the wake of the best record he’s made in decades, 1994’s American Recordings, the highlights of Cash’s shows have come when June leaves her beloved alone with his guitar and the voice that embodies so much of country music’s myth. At 8:45 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $27.50. (202) 393-0930. (Brett Anderson)
