On its second album, Wire Stitched Ears, Dutch “chamber rock” quartet Blast spins a dense, kaleidoscopic sound. Its fractured yet driving music incorporates free blowing and tight ensemble play; points of reference are Doctor Nerve, the Muffins, and Etron Fou Leloublan. Richmond’s Rattlemouth features members of the Ululating Mummies and the defunct Orthotonics. The art-punk band’s debut CD, Walking a Full Moon Dog, showcases saxophonist Danny Finney and guitarist Rebby Sharp, with occasional David Byrnesque vocals from Finney. Rattlemouth opens at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $8. (202) 667-7960. (Jim Dorsch)
