After six weeks of rigorous touring, Dischord’s Smart Went Crazy has not returned to D.C. empty-handed. It seems that the experience of playing at venues ranging from a boxing ring on the Mexican border to a mental institution has prepared the group for almost any situation. Anyone attending SWC’s last show at the Black Cat in April would have noticed a new urgency in Chad Clark’s vocals, a more caustic bite to Jeff Boswell’s flamboyant guitar, and something painfully sweet in the electric exclamations of Hilary Soldati’s cello. If you missed it, here’s another chance to catch their artfully crafted, irony-drenched songs. With San Antonio rockers Cordial at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $3. (202) 667-7960.
