Giant Sand side project Friends of Dean Martinez is the perfect example of what happens when lizards lounge in the Arizona desert. The Shadow of Your Smile is an all-instrumental album of suave psychobilly slide guitar, but the single, “All the Pretty Horses” (which I even heard as background music on the usually clueless DC101), has more in common with Frank Sinatra than it does with Cormac McCarthy. Fred Schneider headlines the night, dubbed “Ultralounge,” which also includes local kings of the martini scene New Wet Kojak, and Love Nut. At 8 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $5. (202) 393-0930. (Tina Plottel)
