M O N D A Y

A budding Leonard Cohen with little-boy bangs, Ron Sexsmith is another not-rock singer/songwriter seeking the joys of misery. On his self-titled album, he sometimes finds them, aided by country twang and a tune from the real Cohen’s songbook. Producer Mitchell Froom is of less assistance, however; his settings make glib what Sexsmith clearly intends to be stark. Sexsmith opens for Aimee Mann at 8:45 p.m. at the 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW. $15. (202) 393-0930. (Mark Jenkins)
