There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
The article on Robert “Red” Parrish (“Battered Neighborhood Syndrome,” 5/31) and the futile attempts of the Brookland neighborhood he terrorizes to get him off the streets was excellent work. Paul Ruffins’ article was the epitome of balance and fairness. It left the reader feeling sorry for both Parrish and the neighborhood he victimizes.
Clearly it is past time for Parrish to be institutionalized and for his out-of-control alcoholism to be treated. Here’s hoping that as a result of Ruffins’ brilliant article, the District agencies and entities that deal with such problems will find Parrish the help he sorely needs, remove him from Brookland, and give its residents, at long last, peace and safety within their homes and their blocks.
