Just as there are real explosions and Hollywood explosions, so there is real karate and Hollywood karate. Karate master (or sensei) Ed Garrasi will explain the difference in his talk, “Karate: Reality vs. Hollywood,” which will distinguish between traditional karate, contemporary self-defense techniques, and the mystical, superhuman stunts of cinematic action heroes that have “twisted” Western perceptions of this Eastern tradition. The lecture, sponsored by the National Capital Area Skeptics, is at 2 p.m. at the Bethesda Library, 7400 Arlington Road, Bethesda. FREE. (301) 587-3827. (MJ)
