You could spend all day pinpointing the styles mined by the Squirrel Nut Zippers—gin-soaked rags, big-band swing, Zappaesque freakouts. But when the tunes are cooking, the horns blaring, and the rhythms chugging like the ‘A’ train, the Zippers know only one genre, which, like the band’s new record, they call Hot. It will be a homecoming for biomedical engineer, Zippers bassist, and D.C. native Don Raleigh at the Black Cat tonight, where you don’t often find patrons dancing chest-to-chest on purpose. With Peaches O’Dell & her Black Cat Orchestra at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $10. (202) 667-7960. (Brett Anderson)
