There’s still time to nominate local icons for Best of D.C.
Vivian Trimble and Jill Cunniff’s debut as Kostars doesn’t necessarily break from the sound they’ve honed with Luscious Jackson. Indeed, the rest of the band plays on a few tracks of Klassics with a K, and many of the songs could work as LJ tunes. But the gentle production (credit goes to Breeders bassist Josephine Wiggs) and the jazziness of the arrangements shows that the Beastie Girls can also play simple, delightful pop. Bethesda’s own Kill Rock Stars representatives Cold Cold Hearts open at 9:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $8. (202) 667-7960. (TP)
