D Generation bass player Howie Pyro doesn’t think his band sounds like the New York Dolls; he must not have heard the guitar solos on “Frankie” and “Waiting for the Next Big Parade” on D Gen’s new disc, No Lunch, which channel Johnny Thunders with a single-minded piety. To be fair, elsewhere D Generation sounds more like late Stooges or early Clash, but the group never sounds like anything recorded after 1977. Flagships and Coyote Shivers open for the Big Apple’s answer to Rancid at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $3. (202) 667-7960. (JL)
