Travis Tritt can try all he wants, but Hank Williams Jr. is still country’s bad boy, even at 47. While Tritt has to work hard proving he’s Trouble in Torn Jeans, Bocephus has been a bona fide one-man disaster area for decades; even today, his idea of relaxation is elk hunting with his wife, Mary Jane (a former model and expert shot), on their Montana ranch. His latest record, A.K.A. Wham Bam Sam, featuring “Houston, We Have a Problem,” and “Don Juan D’Bubba” (no, it’s not about Clinton) is his strongest effort in years, raw and funny and completely out of step with Nashville’s streamlined studs. Naturally, country radio has mostly ignored it, though the video for “Don Juan” is finally getting airplay on CMT. Dixie dinosaur acts Marshall Tucker Band and .38 Special open for Bocephus at 7 p.m. at Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia. $18.50-37.50. (301) 982-1800. (Eddie Dean)
