Officially, the H.O.R.D.E. Festival’s name stands for “Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere.” At the outdoor concert, some of the rock horizons to explore will likely include surreptitious joint-smoking, psychedelic trinket-buying, and white baseball cap–counting. Not exactly new, but for a certain crowd a good time nonetheless. The festival, now in its fifth summer, still gets labeled heir to the Grateful Dead’s tours. But for all the familiar musical mediocrity and pseudo-hippie silliness H.O.R.D.E. may feature, it is also unpretentious, middlebrow rock ’n’ roll fun—nothing to sneeze at in this year of angst and kitsch. Blues Traveler, Lenny Kravitz, Rusted Root, and 311 headline. At 4 p.m. at Nissan Pavilion, 7800 Cellar Door Dr., Bristow. $30. (703) 276-9768. (Michael Schaffer)
