In the school of famous-family cool, siblings have not fared well. Think of the songbird sister of Barbra Streisand (what was her name again?) or model Christy Taylor (Niki’s sis). Then, of course, there’s Billy Carter and Roger Clinton—so yes, it gets worse. When daytime TV carries their 15 minutes of fame, we look away in sympathetic shame. However, the best thing I can say about Newt Gingrich is…Candace Gingrich. She’s got a silly little grin and a quiet nature, but she is making the best of a political shit-uation. Out and proud, her prominence gives comforting pause to Newt’s tirades. She can’t be denied. Candace discusses and signs copies of The Accidental Activist: A Personal and Political Memoir at 7 p.m. at Lammas Bookstore, 1426 21st St. NW. FREE. (202) 775-8218. (Ginger Eckert)
