As fascinated and
horrified as I was by Julie Wakefield’s piece about the gross inefficiency of the bureaucracy that “runs” the D.C. Fire Department (“Burn, Baby, Burn,” 8/30), I found an equally interesting story within it. I had no idea that the Treasury Department building was uninsured. How many other federal buildings are uninsured, and how much would we taxpayers have to shell out if one—or, God forbid, all of them—went up in flames? That’d make a great story, don’t you think?
