In the British music press, Sleeper awoke on the strength of singer/songwriter Louise Wener’s wildly controversial (well, mildly outspoken) comments. Musically, the band’s Britpop is hit-or-miss; on the new The It Girl, Wener’s name-dropping lyrics are only sometimes bolstered by her Blondie-derived melodies. Live, though, the quartet will probably favor the livelier material from its first album, Smart. With Zoothead and Spoon at 8:30 p.m. at the Black Cat, 1831 14th St. NW. $6. (202) 667-7960.
