A product of Calcutta’s Sangeet Research Academy, a conservatory established to replace the princely patrons who once sustained Indian music, singer Rashid Khan takes the most traditional approach to Hindustani classical music. Where other singers who draw on this tradition—most famously Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan—improvise and synthesize, this Khan plays it straight. He’ll be accompanied by Tanmoy Bose on tabla and Ramesh Mishra, who plays an Indian-style box fiddle, a violin with sympathetic strings like those of a sitar. At 7:30 p.m. at the Freer Gallery’s Meyer Auditorium, 12th & Jefferson Dr. SW. FREE. (202) 357-4880. (Mark Jenkins)
